How to stay healthy and active over Christmas
It’s that time of year again, lots of get togethers, celebrations, food, and drink, also a time when the diet goes out the window, exercise becomes non-existent, and the dent in sofa cushion gets deeper every passing minute.
It’s natural to relax the diet and training to give your mind and body a reboot, however, the hard work that’s been accomplished throughout the year can slowly start to disappear. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can start the new year in the right way, with a positive mind and recharged body after relaxing and enjoying yourself with friends and family at the same time.
Let’s have a plan in place, one that allows you to get the best of both worlds. This way you limit the damage this time of year always causes and means you keep most of the gains you’ve made from the year.
Here’s some simple steps to add into your Christmas plan.
1. Give yourself a number of days off eating healthy and exercise – think 3 to 4 days off completely.
2. Keep your steps up – even when you’re having your days off training, you can still burn off some of the excess with a daily walk around the block, especially if you aren’t going to train over this time.
3. If you’re going to continue to train, aim for 2-3 sessions just to keep things ticking over.
4. If you can’t train in the gym but you want to stay active, look for workouts you can do from home.
5. Don’t drink alcohol every day – you won’t be burning fat if you keep giving your body alcohol to use
6. Try not to overload on carbohydrates, especially the sugary ones – what you don’t burn you’ll store. So, if you’re going to be less active, eat less carbs.
As well as sticking to the plan above, PT Buddy is giving away FREE training plans you can do at home to keep the calories burning. Just send us a message info@pt-buddy.co.uk and we’ll send it right over.
Let’s start the new year with positivity and enthusiasm, building on what you’ve achieved the year before and taking it to a new level.
Have a great Christmas one and all, and hope 2024 bring you health, wealth, and happiness.
